Five Restaurant and Street Lounge Review

Five Restaurant and Street Lounge

On xxxxx, Nicole, Rich and I went to Five Restaurant and Street Lounge. We decided to meet at 8 for cocktails and miraculously I got rockstar parking and was the first one there. I browsed through their wine menu and had a glass of the Ravenswood Vintner's Blend Zinfandel. I have since decided I like it a lot because it has a hint of dark chocolate in it. At least that is what I taste.

This is what I ordered:

Appetizer
Winter Salad

Entree
Scallops (Cooked a la plancha, Nueske bacon vinaigrette, on a soft corn waffle topped with frisee)

Dessert
Coffee and Chocolate Lava Cake
but we also had this creme tiramisu b/c the chocolate lava cake was a bit dry and so not all that great and would have been a waste of calories

The best part of the restaurant was the purple decor. I liked it since it was my favorite color and thought about how I could incorporate some of the same lighting in my room.

Organic Wine

Grapes are one of the crops most sprayed with pesticides, herbicides and fungicides. Not a good thing...if you like to consume wine...so I might try to go the organic wine route. One thing that most organic wine sites point out is that there probably is no such thing as 100% organic wine. The reason is that sulfites must be added to wine to preserve it. And even if its not directly added to it, the fermentation process itself produces sulfites. Sulfites are the most common preservatives and if there are no sulfites in wine...it turns brown and sour in less than two months (well unless they use another type of preservative). Also wines with no sulfites are basically just grape juice. I've found a couple good sites that discusses this organic wine subject further.

These two are websites where you can buy wine too:

I forgot I was interested in this subject. I first thought about it when I tried a glass of it at the Ecopolitan Restaurant in Minneapolis a couple months back. Then for New Year's Eve, Aaron (Eric's friend) brought a bottle of Frey California Red Table Wine over...which has sparked my memory on this interest.
