Organic Wine

Grapes are one of the crops most sprayed with pesticides, herbicides and fungicides. Not a good thing...if you like to consume wine...so I might try to go the organic wine route. One thing that most organic wine sites point out is that there probably is no such thing as 100% organic wine. The reason is that sulfites must be added to wine to preserve it. And even if its not directly added to it, the fermentation process itself produces sulfites. Sulfites are the most common preservatives and if there are no sulfites in wine...it turns brown and sour in less than two months (well unless they use another type of preservative). Also wines with no sulfites are basically just grape juice. I've found a couple good sites that discusses this organic wine subject further.

These two are websites where you can buy wine too:

I forgot I was interested in this subject. I first thought about it when I tried a glass of it at the Ecopolitan Restaurant in Minneapolis a couple months back. Then for New Year's Eve, Aaron (Eric's friend) brought a bottle of Frey California Red Table Wine over...which has sparked my memory on this interest.

Hello! As you know, I am not much of a wine drinker. I don't really like anything alchoholic, but I did find a trip to San Diego that I really enjoy wines made from the moscata grapes. Moscata d' Asti is my favorite wine! You ought to try it sometime if you haven't already. Not sure how organic it is, but its tasty. :)

The presence of sulfites doesn't mean the wine isn't organic - it's the added sulfites that would do so. So, actually, in addition to the two wineries you mention, there are plenty of organic wineries selling No Sulfites Added wines. Sulfite-free wines are a lot harder to find.
